Development of an integrated information system for tree protection

  • Date of declaration:2014-05-28

The core function of the Tree Medical Research Center of TFRI is to integrate research resources as well as techniques of tree protection, thus providing better services in health management, diagnosis, and medical treatment as well as creating suitable growth environment for urban trees. Currently, there are three independent web-based information systems under this center: Tree disease notification and identification information system, Tree brown root rot disease survey and notification information system, and Tree fern wilt disease monitoring information system. Meanwhile, with the expansion in researches and services in this center, accumulated data content will become more and more enormous and complex, thus integration of disparate information sources is urgent and imperative. The maintenance, development, and management of urban green infrastructure are inseparable parts of urban tree protection. It is necessary to establish a framework and methodology of long-term monitoring urban trees health and their growth environment. All the monitoring data also should be included into an integrated urban tree protection information system. The research group in forest protection division collaborated with ecological and biodiversity informatics researchers of LTER, ILTER, and other international organizations, working on the applications and development of ecological/biodiversity information management, which can be adopted to integrate resources and techniques for establishing tree protection information system.
