The standard of living in Taiwan has improved considerably over the past few years, and during this time domestic consumption of wood and bamboo has also seen a significant increase. As a result, accurate information about materials must often be acquired through wood and bamboo identification techniques in order to protect consumer interests and the quality of public construction projects. To accommodate the public’s needs, Taiwan Forestry Research Institute (TFRI) has collected 770 genera and 2393 species of domestic and foreign wood and bamboo specimens, and uses these specimens as comparative references when identifying wood and bamboo.
