Abstract
Urban trees are important investments and propertities as urban green infrastructure and have to be maintained and managed properly. To create suitable environment for urban trees, we have to evaluate the planting site and to select suitable tree species. Mapping tree species and their distribution, growth status, as well as investigating micro climate and soil properties in the microhabitat of urban trees can help evalute the relarionship between tree helath and environment, also can be used to predict the potential values in energy saving, environment ameliorating, and carbon sequestration, thus facilitate the maintenance, development, and management of urban green infrastructure. Taiwan Forestry Research Institute has established the research center for tree medical science in 2012 to integrate the resources and technologies for tree protection and therapies, providing services of health managemnt, diagnosis, and treatment for urban trees. This research will develop a framework for long term monitoring of urban tree health and environmental suitability to establish an integrated urban tree information management system .
