Abstract
Environmental issues like air pollution, water quality and food are getting worse. At the same time, social issues like ageing problems and economic stress among younger generations expand all over the world. The world is looking for the solutions to these problems. From our perspective, providing a Satoyama-based environments integrated with forest and gardening therapy may help mitigate the negative effects. Forest environments can provide the leisure enjoyment and improve physical and psychological health and so do horticultural activities. A Satoyama-based community takes into account both bio-diversity and local economic development. This project will plan a forest and gardening therapy site that combines the concept of forest therapy, horticultural therapy, and food forest. Satoyama-based strategies will be established to manage these green resources and evaluate the therapeutic and economic effects. The sites will be located at the Lianhuachi Research Center and Fushan Research Center of the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute. Based on the local ecological and environmental characteristics, our team will develop therapeutic activities and tour and analyze their effect. In the future, these two sites are expected to serve as a solution to reduce the negative effects of modernization and work as an indicator of a healthy city.
