Abstract
The objectives were to collect seeds of Cyclobalanopsis morii (Fagaceae), Lithocarpus hancei (Fagaceae), Lithocarpus hancei var. arisanensis (Fagaceae) and Litsea cubeba (Lauraceae) and to test seedling growth using different growth medium, including soil, rice husk and organic manure. Results showed that (1) seedlings height of 100% soil: 35.7 cm in C. morii, 48.7 cm in L. hancei, 61.7 cm in L. hancei var. arisanensis, 16.6 cm in L. cubeba; (2) seedlings height of 80% soil mixed with 20 rice husk: 25.9 cm in C. morii, 31.1 cm in L. hancei, 36.6 cm in L. hancei var. arisanensis, 26.9 cm in L. cubeba; (3) seedlings height of 80% soil mixed with 20% organic manure: 48.8 cm in C. morii, 47.2 cm in L. hancei, 43.8 cm in L. hancei var. arisanensis, 27.8 cm in L. cubeba; (4) seedlings height of 60% soil mixed with 20% rice husk and 20% organic manure: 28.9 cm in C. morii, 28.8 cm in L. hancei, 37.8 cm in L. hancei var. arisanensis, 17.0 cm in L. cubeba. In conclusion, Seedlings of the 3 species of Fagaceae in 100% soil or soil mixed with organic manure had grew better compared to the other 2 medium. However, seedlings of L. cubeba grew well in soil mixed with rice husk or soil mixed with organic manure.
