Abstract
Seed lots of Acacia confusa were collected at seed orchard established in July 2012. They were 4 clones of 7 trees from Liouguei provenance, 3 clones of 5 trees from Ilan provenance, 5 clones of 7 trees from Hengchun provenance, 3 clones of 6 trees from Taimali, and 7 clones of 15 trees from Chiayi. Total of 22 seed lots from 5 provenances were obtained. A 4-years-old plantation of Acacia provenance and progeny test established in Dec 2012 at Tafufarm, Guangfu, Hualien was investigated in Nov 2016. The best growth of progeny in tree height and DBH (692.4 ± 87.8cm and 6.54 ± 1.63cm) was from tree #2 of Ilan provenance, while the worse one was tree #6 from Taimali. The closing canopy occurred at a 4-years-old plantation with 3 different planting densities established at Guanfu at the same time. The density ranked as 1.5x2 m showed the great growth (584.5±96 cm in tree height, and 5.37±1.1cm in DBH). A 2-years-old plantation of provenance test for Trema orientalis established at Guanfu reached 120.93 cm tall, however, the best progeny of LH tree grew 181.8cm tall. We fell 5.3 years-old trees of A. confusa and crashed to be small particles as used material in plastic bags for culturing shiitake (922 strains). The production of shiitake grown in bags containing with pure or different ratios (30, 50, and 70%) of young Acacia woods with other tree species was better than that in commercial bags.
