Abstract
This report is the results of the first year. From the diffusion of international coffee plantation, we found that shaded coffee has become an eco-friendly commodity. By certification and specialty coffee market, shaded coffee with a premium are widely accepted by consumers. In the past decade, Taiwan’s coffee production and prices are increasing, but still supply amount far less than the demand amount. Comparison of production area among counties, Pingtung is the largest, followed by Taitung, Chiayi, Nantou, Tainan, Yunlin and Hualien. Data were collected in depth interviews from coffee farmers in Pingtung and Nantou. Shaded coffee can be used as peasant economy mode with limited manpower and get high income. By appropriate allocation, shaded coffee can also be an excellent agroforestry conservation Strategy.
