Due to the problems of soil properties and seedling qualities in fallow land, trees grown in these areas are poor and readily suffered from strong wind. To improve tree growth, 3 areas where located at Miaoli, Menong, and Taitung are selected. At present the problem of fallowland for afforestation have two, the first is soil compaction due to agricultural use in the past, which led to poor drainage, soil physical deterioration, this issue will obstruct seedling roots stretch then impede tree growth and easy to suffer a variety of hazards, these can be improved by physical properties of soil improvement measures. The second is poor quality seedlings, current the seedlings lien on nursery for too long time, it led to the leggy seedlings, seedlings root circling and deformation. So before planting out seedlings, seedlings should be selected operations.
