Bamboo forests are widely distributed in areas of low and mid elevation of Taiwan. Bamboo was one of the important materials of forest products industries in Taiwan for past several decades. However, Taiwan bamboo industry declined obviously as a result of the industry migration. In order to solve the downcast prosperity problem of bamboo industries, the research and development of techniques for enhancing the durability and utilization of bamboo are very essential.
In this study, Ma bamboo cut into 6 mm in thickness, 25 cm in width, 16 cm in length were used for heat treatment at different temperature (160, 180, 200 and 220℃) and different time(1, 2, 4, 8 and 12h) after 105±2℃ oven drying. The weight loss, dimensions reduction, color difference, swelling and bending strength were tested.
The weight loss and dimensions reduction of heat-treatment bamboo were increased with treating temperature and treating time. The color of the heat-treatment bamboo becomes black with treating temperature and the treating time. The swelling of heat-treatment bamboo decreased with treating temperature and treating time. The MOR of heat-treatment bamboo decreased obviously with treating temperature and treating time, but the MOE was not almost affected by treating temperature and treating time.
