Abstract
Keteleeria davidiana var. formosana are indigenous trees only in the northern (Pinglin) and southern (Dawu) parts of Taiwan.  These trees had already been listed as one ofconservative tree species and protected by the government due to their scarcepopulation and low ratio of seed setting.  These mother trees number is very fewer  and only 108 in Pinglin.  Moreover, their vigor is decreasing coupled with few regeneration offsprings in nature stands for their low quality of seed production- more than 97% seeds per cone is empty.  This research project is proposed to conserve these mother trees using pollen preservation and branch cuttings.  53 mature mother tree had already been propagated by branch cutting.  There was no decline in pollen viability levels after 4 years of low temperature and freeze/vaccum drying preservation.   The fresh pollen were used to pollinate different seed parents and the ratio of sound seed is 97%.  After 4 years using low temperature preservation of pollen, the Dawu’s no. 298 pollen germination ration is 73.5% .  These storage pollen were used to pollinate different seed parents and the ratio of sound seeds is 0-100%.  The germination ratio of sound seeds is 5-44%.  In this year’s project, we already produced over 2000 seedlings.
