Abstract
Abstract of Research of impact of improving public participation, aboriginal traditional knowledge and territory on forestry management in community forestry (1/4):
1.Research of improvement of public participation, aboriginal traditional knowledge and territory in community forestry (1/4):
The research uses semi-structured interviews to collect in-depth information of indigenous traditional knowledge, in order to study possibility of applying traditional ecological knowledge on forest management, and potential impact of traditional territory on forestry. First, we need to collect the references of traditional ecological knowledge and traditional territory, and select an aboriginal community which near traditional territory and national forest as the research area. Second, we will assess the capability of aborigines to manage national forest and possible models of co-management or collaborative management, and assess the impact of delimitation of aboriginal autonomous region on national forest management. Finally, we will investigate aboriginal willingness to manage national forest and perspective for delimiting aboriginal autonomous, and opinions from the general public.
2.The overlooking the policy outcome of community forestry in Taiwan (1/4):
The development of forest management related with aborigines in Taiwan. The movement adopts the community forestry program to achieve objectives that are collecting local ecosystem knowledge, building the environment awareness, getting the partnership of government and aborigine, and developing the eco-industry. All objectives are very impartment for sustainment of forest management and conservation of bio-diversity. Consequently, the researchers getting the participation degree and participation type of community forestry is importance for policy developing and modifying in the future.
The government carried out the community forestry project in 2002, there has been more than 600 communities involved in the project up to now. There is research point out that few aborigine communities participated in the project, and most participating type are educational training. Therefore, this study used the 2001-2008 community forestry data to get the finding: the practicing degree of aboriginal community maybe higher than general communities, and not all participating type are educational training; some are resource investigation, visiting or community construction activity.
3.Implementation of silivcultural practice to catalyses economics activity andimprove the forest production of aboriginal community (2/3):
The study is major in the investigation and category the land use forms and economic activities of Fushan aboriginal village in Wulai, Taipei county. We will encourage the residents to cooperate us to an experimental reforestation of mixed-hardwood forest .to develop the utility of non-timber products of the plantation. The practice of the reforestation might benefit some financial income for the aboriginal economic activity.
According our silviculture test, the Pasania konishii (Hayata) species could using grafting method, the grafting ratio are 35%, to promoted it’s maturating period and increasing seed production. The egg type acorn, it’s means seed high/diameter ratio > 80%, content more seed nut. Those results can use to be a selecting parameter. The Tricalysia dubia (Lindl.) tree species can be growth under forest crown, it have good timber production and fast growth, means for good money income for the aboriginal society.
