Abstract
According to over 200 records of Lauraceae galls from Taiwan, 8 Machilus, 7 Litsea and 6 Neolitsea species are host plants of Diptera (Cecidomyiidae) gallers, and mostly Daphnephila gallers. Base on shape of the galls, the gall diversity is highest on Machilus, especially on leaf part. To collect Machilus gall larvaes, we extracted DNA and sequenced the mitochondrial COI gene to build a phylogeny tree of Daphnephila gallers. They may still speciation. We found that more than 50 gall morphospecies maybe caused by several major gallers on different host trees. Except some oval-pointed shape and bell shape may be induced by the same galling insect, but the same bell shape and club shape can divide to complex gallers.
