Abstract
Since the hybridization, polyploidization, parallel evolution, and allopatric speciation events happened frequently in Plantae, it is uneasy to distinqusih some clades by their characters. Thus the taxonomy becomes uncertainty and brings trouble to the conservation strategy.
In this study, we plan to clarify about 20 taxa of 5 vascular species. By using molecuar technique and combining with the morphological data, ecological distribution, the taxonomy would be revised and become a reference for the “Red book” editing and set up the conservation strategy. In the future, it could supply the correct origin of genomes for sustainable usage. These species which we focus on are: 1.Adiantum meishanianum complex, 2.Taxus sp. complex, 3.Vaccinium sp. complex, 4.Aristolochia sp. complex, 5.Zingiber kawagoii complex.
First, we will sample the population by the taxon (subspecies or variety) or morphological character and survey its distribution. In the morphological aspect, by using micro-method (such as scanning electron microscope) to examine the spore/pollen and cytotype. In molecular aspect, the extraction of nuclear DNA and chloroplast DNA are carried on for further phylogenetic analysis. After investigation, the seedlings are cultivated in the Taipei Botanical Garden for future study.
By sufficient sampling, detail investigation of micro and macro morphology, and molecular analysis, the taxonomy confusion would be solved. It could supply a workable suggestion for the programing of conservation strategies.
