Abstract
Urban green areas and parks can be shelters for the wildlife, therefore, the diversities and their conservation in these areas have become hot issues in ecological studies. Since human is a main component in urban green areas and parks, it is a necessity realizing interactions between human and wildlife. A certain studies demonstrated that avian response to human disturbance is related to the avian body size. In this study, we explored the relationships between avian flight initiation distances and their body sizes, environment factors, conspecies and heterospecies flock sizes, respectively. We also surveyed avian foraging on human food in the Taipei Botanical Garden (TBG). Both of the avian body size and the shrub coverage percentage affected the avian flight initiation distance significantly. Avian foraging on human food is an important issue in TBG. To mitigate the problem, birds and other animal's feeding by visitors should be prohibited strictly at the same time.
