The goal of this study was to develop a technique for seed collection and storage of important Taiwan native coastal tree species. Furthermore, the optimum germination conditions and storage methods were also investigated to be basic information on future silvilculture, and the seedlings of this study were also planted to establish forestry seedling production system of different tree species. The results showed that seeds of Pittosporum pentandrum (Blanco) Merr., Terminalia catappa L., Thespesia populnea (L.) Solad ex Correa, Tournefortia argentea (L.) f., Premna serratifolia Linn., Scaevola taccada (Gaertner) Roxb, Scolopia oldhamii Hance, Antidesma pentandrum Merr. var. barbatum (Presl) Merr., and Allophylus timorensis (DC.) Blume were orthodox which can tolerate desiccation and sub-zero temperatures; that is, long-term storage can be applied to these species for future seed demand. Seeds of Goniothalamus amuyon (Blanco) Merr., Ardisia elliptica Thunb., Diospyros vaccinioides Lindly, and Calophylium inophyllum L. were intermediate. Seeds of Rhaphiolepis indica Lindl. var. hiiranensis (Kaneh.) Li and Syzygium formosanum (Hay.) Mori were temperate recalcitrant. Seeds of Diospyros kotoensis Yamazaki, Myristica ceylanica var. cagayanensis, Diospyros philippensis (Desr.) Gurke, Litsea graciae Vidal., Aglaia formosana Hay., Drypetes littoralis (C. B. Rob.) Merr., and Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre were tropical recalcitrant. Besides, the seedling experiment of 8 species are being conducted in Hengchun and Taimalee Research Centers, including Scaevola taccada (Gaertner) Roxb., Thespesia populnea (L.) Solad ex Correa, Tournefortia argentea (L.) f., Pittosporum pentandrum (Blanco) Merr., Scolopia oldhamii Hance, Terminalia catappa L., Calophylium inophyllum L., and Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre. Subsequently, these seedlings will be continually transplanted to find out the appropriate seedling conditions by our experimental design.
