執行成果摘要
Keteleeria davidiana var. formosana are indigenous trees only in the northern and southern parts of Taiwan. These trees had already been listed as one of conservative tree species and protected by the government due to their scarce population and low ratio of seed setting. These trees numbered less than 400. Moreover, their vigor is decreasing coupled with few regeneration offsprings in nature stands for their low quality of seed production more than 97% seeds per cone is empty. Ex situ conservation of plant genetic resources can be achieved through different methods such as seed bank, field gene banks, pollen banks and DNA banks. K. davidiana var. formosana is not orthodox seeds, so conservation method can’t be used by seed bank. However, pollen preservation may be useful for base collections of K. davidiana var. formosana. This research project is proposed to propagate the mother tree by cutting and set up a field gene bank , pollen bank and DNA banks of K. davidiana var. formosana.
