Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to realize phylogeography of Fagus hayatae and related species distributed in the region and set up database of the population genetic and refugee effects. Two Chloroplast DNA fragments (rbcL-atpB and trnL-trnF) and one mitochondria DNA fragment (nad7) were used in this study. Fagus hayatae was quiet similar to F.japonica and F. crenata of Japan morphologically and the habitats of Fagus hayatae were located on northern east of Taiwan, including N. Chatien Shan, Tong Shan and Da-bai Shan. Evidence showed that population differentiation between N. Cha-tien shan and Tong Shan populations had happened. Both of them revealed monophyletic patterns in Chloroplast DNA fragments (rbcL-atpB and trnL-trnF). It is interesting to find the dendrongram of F. crenata form Japan and F. engleriana and F. lucida , collected from Kew Botanic Gardens of U.K., appeared within the N. Chatien Shan population. F. crenata of Japan usually showed another monophyletic pattern. The purposes of this year are fallowing. First, genetic diversity analysis of Fagus hayatae, representing typical populations of native resources will be completed. Secondly, cpDNA and mtDNA sequencing of the relatic species from Taiwan and neighboring areas will be iniciated. Thirdly, start to collect materials of European and American resources of Fagus species. Finally, SSR library of Fagus hayatae native to Taiwan will be set up.
