Abstract
Invastion of alien species, pests and diseases not only destroys biodiversity, but it also causes serious harm to the agriculture forestry industry and economic losses. This project intends to establish a database of possible high-risk of alien species and of forest pests as well as significant international invasion species, and develop a environmental risk analysis and impact assessment system. Quarantine lists will be created based on the assessment results to prohibit the importation or mandate quarantining of certain timber and forest products, and pests items. This quarantine list is necessary for an effective quarantine control system. In addition, developing advanced, fast and the accurate molecular quarantine technology and establishing a monitoring model for significant invasion species are also very urgent and the another key objective of this project. The major research this project are included in the environmental risk assessment, the warning and quarantine lists, the development of diagnostic tools for quarantine and monitoring, the development of prevention strategies, and the establishment of a complete domestic quarantine process for current import lumber.
