Beizihtou Botanical Garden

  • Date of declaration:2011-12-29
Introduction

Beizihtou Botanical Garden, located in west Chiayi, covers an area of 4.6 hectares. Its predecessor was Rubber Tree Research Nursery that had been one of the city’s major attractions, known to be the congregated point for Song Birds. Later, the garden developed as Nursery for ornamental trees.

In 2001, as part of Green Taiwan program, the garden began to focus on environment-friendly and sustainable management. TRFI (Taiwan Forestry Research Institute) planed to renovate Botanical Gardens and then included Beizihtou Botanical Garden in the national network of Botanical Gardens. After the redesign and replanting, the garden reopened to public on April 4, 2005.

The garden is divided into the following areas: grasses, green resources, bamboo, shrubbery, climbing plants, perfumed flowers, urban forest and a nursery area. It is a true urban tropical garden and also provides a full range of botanical garden services including research, resource conservation, environmental education and leisure.
