Introduction

Sihhu Coastal Botanical Garden, located in the small village of Lincuo near Sihhu in Yunlin County, was founded in 1993 and covers an area of 22 hectares. It serves as a base for forestry research, developing techniques to enhance environmental protection. Furthermore, it is also used for research and development for natural wind barriers along shorelines and improving forest ecosystems.


Sihhu Coastal Botanical Garden is dedicated to species preservation in the western coastal area of Sihhu. It serves as a botanical laboratory, a site for the long-term cultivation of native forest trees, and also an educational resource for coastal forestry. The range of species grows in the garden is a typical sample of Taiwan’s coastal ecosystem. Researchers can experiment with different methods of managing forests in humid areas and explore the techniques required for planting, propagating, cultivating and managing mangrove and semi-mangrove trees. The garden serves a range of functions, not only botanical research but also education, leisure, and conservation.
